This week in class we talked about social trends. We learned about how the age of marriage has changed. People get married later in life now, as a result of later marriage they don’t have as many kids. We talked about how cohabitation has gone up as well and this is becoming more of a trend than ever before. It is become a trend because why married and if it doesn’t work out then have to get a divorce, or just cohabitate and if it doesn’t work out one of them just moves out or they move on in their sperate ways. We discussed about how household size is going down do to the fact that people aren’t having as many kids. Birth rates are going down and the U.S and the world isn’t replacing itself. We talked about the different circumstances that can influence whether people have more children or not. Some people focus on their career or must work to survive. This can change or alter them having kids or expanding their family. Focusing on a career is fine. Some moms deal with this by having a child and puting them in daycare. Some companies even have an in-house daycare so moms can still see their children or even let mom work from home.  Other people might have to work for a living and are in the low Social economic status, this makes it that they don’t want to bring a child into hardship and if they do get pregnant, they will sometimes terminate the pregnancy or give it up for adoption or other things that sometimes raise it in hardship. Another thing is that young people are wanting to live alone.  This is ok but with living alone the feeling of loneliness can creep up this sometimes leads to depression this doesn’t happen to everyone. But can happen when living alone.  One thing that is helping with the population decline is immigration. Immigration can only help so much since the people that are immigrating come from countries whose population is also declining. Population decline is not only happening in the U.S it is happening all over the world. In order to fix the population decalin we need to start replacing our population. Some counties have offer money incentive to have kids, that has not helped. Other countries have focus on the family and has been trying to help families to be a stronger unit this has helped it hasn’t fixed the problem of population decline but it has started people to think differently about families.  I found this information in class interesting. I didn’t know that we were in population decline I thought that we were still having overpopulation issues. I guess it proves that sometimes we don’t know what’s happening in the world around us until we look or seek to know information. At the end or class our teacher talked about how respecting other people’s views is so important because we do talk about sensitive subjects in this class. As human beings we sometimes we atomically get frustrated or judge, but we don’t always know what the person has gone through in life to know why they said what they said or act the way the act. In class when we talked about that it made me think about how maybe I wasn’t being understanding enough with my certain roommate because I don’t know her past in life. I should just be a little more understanding whenever I can and maybe learn her past at some point in the semester. Because you never know what understanding you’ll come out with just by listening to another human being.
